Land Acquisition Bill is not the Biggest WORRY..!!

I never think about this, but when today I read the newspaper!! There was a news Headline..

“Missing the big, bleak picture”.

With sub headline..

“With the land Acquisition Bill in the limelight, nobody is talking about the real reform that farmers need. A majority survey finds that almost half the respondents don’t want to continue in agriculture”.

Though farmers are anxious about the land Acquisition Bill, but this is not the biggest worry. The problem is more than 60% of farmers are willing to leave farming if they found a job.

This was not a surprising for me. As in my village, out of 100 farmer, 100 want to quit farming.
The reason for the farmer’s increasing apathy towards their profession are not that much difficult to understand.  Unpredictable weather and dependence on monsoons is the major problem. Crops also get destroyed either by droughts or floods.

As per a survey, 1 out of 3 farmers had taken a loan for the meeting personal/farming needs. That means, a farmer is not even able to earn enough to fulfill his personal needs.

A week before, when I was purchasing the goods for my home, wheat was @ 35 per kg. I was shocked, this is the same wheat which I sell at 12 per kg 6 month before and will sell at 12.5 per kg after 1 month.  So, a farmer gets total rs. 12 and a shopkeeper get more than 20 as profit.

I guess, this is the reason why Indian economy is dependent on agriculture. Because it’s very easy to fool them?
There is no lack of schemes for the farmer, the need is to improve the delivery of these rather than initiate new ones on the name of YOUR PEOPLE.

There is need of more expert advice, new kinds of seeds, fertilizers, farming techniques…!!
Most important, a good market, in which a farmer will get the right price for his goods.

India, which still have a major part of population in rural area, so reviving the rural economy is must to reviving the country economy. And this is the major challenge for BJP govt, which is always titled as ANTI FARMER Government.

But I guess, India can never succeed economically without a vibrant agriculture. And this is the lesson yet to be learned by current government..! If BJP hopes to retain the support, the government must ensure for the better condition of agriculture and farmers.
